SU Elections

Undergraduate Education Officer – Eli McBriarty

I’m Eli McBriarty, my past course was Irish Language and History, currently running for the position of Undergradute Education, my current position in the SU.

Vote Eli #1! I will fight to reform the current academic sanctions policy to be fairer for students. I will push for the university to reduce the assesment burden for students. I will ensure that student reps are respected. I will lobby for better cost of living support for all.

For this past year I have worked with the other officers to ensure our cost-of-living support as a Union is robust and expanded. This year I hope to lobby the university to make sure that the free breakfasts, the Warm Up scheme and the free food initiatives are expanded, alongside the pantry being funding.

I think UG officers in the past have been very university-focused. I’d like to focus more on the Union, make sure our student reps are as trained as they can be, and that they are fully respected by the university, and compensated for all the work that they do.

For this past year I’ve been the current UG Education officer. Before that, I was an activist, so I would have taken part in various campaigns from housing to divestment, such as the 3D’s campaign that has fought for divestment from arms companies by the university. My experience that I have gained this year, with working on current projects, and new projects such as academic sanctions reform, as well as reducing overassessment within the university.

I like to go climbing; I’m not very good but I go Boulder World, and I do enjoy going to the gym sometimes.

Represenation, improving student lives & voices.
