ABOUT US
Our Aims
Our aims are to provide a voice to the student body through the utilisation of student free speech and expression on campus to highlight the positive – and negative aspects of Queens University Belfast, as well as general Belfast issues. We want to expand our team and our primary aim for this year is to centre our writing more heavily on student issues and what you want to read!
Our History
The Gown was founded in April 1955 by Richard Herman, a medical student in QUB at the time. The Gown has since thrived under many different editorships. It has gained a reputation for its articles on major Belfast current events and hot topic interviews conducted. The Gown was originally in printed media, and after years of publishing only online, we have returned for our 70th anniversary with printed issues every semester.
Our Future
Our Future aims to continue to push the Gown forward in time while maintaining its historic nature, maintaing the return to print and the move to new forms of social media. Alongside this we want to continue to grow our teams, extend our community impact and ensure that the growth of student journalism continues and flourishes.
