SU Elections

Activities and Engagement Officer – Daisy Gallivan

My name is Daisy Gallivan, I’m a third-year Sociology and Social Policy student, running for Activities and Engagement Officer.

“Vote Daisy!”

Queens could be offering a lot more funding to clubs. I run a sport club, and we didn’t get as much funding as we wanted this year, which meant the cost to our players has gone up, causing struggles for people to attend matches and training. I also think activities could be a lot more accessible, like the free meals and activities in the student union, which are often on the same day. People might have classes or work, so it would be great if they were on multiple days of the week.

I think they need to focus on events that don’t just center around the bar. Some people, including those who might not feel comfortable going to the bar, miss out on activities like bingo and quizzes. Also, mature students often get left behind. It’s harder for them to make friends as they come in, go to their classes, and go home, which isn’t really what university is supposed to be about.

I’m president of the Lacross Club, and I’m also part of fun activities like Wine and Cheese events and the Cowboys. I think those activities make the university experience whole. There’s a lot of great work being done by the student union, but it’s not always advertised well, and people don’t know what’s available to them.

I play lacrosse, and I also enjoy reading and music. My favourite artist is probably Amy McDonald. She’s from Scotland, a pop singer.

Combating isolation, clubs and societies.
