DUP Leader Gavin Robinson Visits Queen’s University Belfast for ‘LitTalk’

On Monday, the 16th of February, Gavin Robinson MP, leader of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), attended Queen’s University Belfast to engage in an interview with Queen’s University Belfast Literary & Scientific Society. This was the fourth ‘LitTalk’ hosted in the 177th session of the society, with previous guests including Declan Lawn and Dr Jilan Abdalmajid.

Robinson is an alumnus of Queen’s University Belfast. Before beginning his professional career, he achieved his undergraduate degree in Law and masters degree in Irish Politics. Robinson then went on to become a barrister in 2008 at the Bar of Northern Ireland. Balancing his legal career with his political rise, he served on Belfast City Council and as Lord Mayor, before becoming an MP in 2015.

In May 2015, Robinson was first elected as the MP for his constituency, Belfast East, and he has successfully defended his seat in three subsequent elections. Furthermore, on the 29th of May 2024, Robinson was announced as the leader of the DUP. 

During his ‘LitTalk’, Robinson discussed his introduction to politics, balancing his legal career with his political involvement, his leadership of the DUP, and issues he has faced throughout his career.
