Vogue called – boyfriends are out, and The Gown could not agree more.

By Katie McShane

Vogue’s Chante Joseph set the question – “is having a boyfriend embarrassing now,” and this paper cannot agree fast enough. Proudly independent since 1955, The Gown knows a thing or two about surviving single.

University affiliated? Please, that would be like a government owning a media company and charging people to listen. I mean how could we write with honesty and integrity from inside the corporation. This is a student publication, meaning we publish for the students, by the students.

Sure, independence has its difficulties. Relying on sugar daddy funding sounds simple but in the face of terms and conditions, the answer is simple – self-respect. Rest assured, The Gown would never let The Man tell us what to say. There is nothing worse than the taste of someone else’s words in your mouth. And there is no price high enough to sacrifice unbiased news.

Don’t get me wrong, this paper has absolutely nothing against relationships. Only that you must stay true to yourself before committing to another person. And more importantly remain true to your own values and beliefs which is exactly what this paper intends to do. So please, unless you have a tip-off stay OUT of these DMs. And forget about a hard launch, this paper hereby refuses to relinquish its independence, not for any king or Queens.
