Georgia’s Gig Guide –  Five Up-and-Coming Irish Acts to see this Summer

By Georgia McPoland

Tis the season to be rowdy, and this summer we have been spoilt for selection when it comes to fresh Irish talent featuring at festivals across the country.  Here’s my top 5 Irish stars that you don’t want to miss in this Summer’s festival circuit, with something for everyone in the audience.

  1. Fizzy Orange

Who they are: Fizzy Orange are a six-piece soul group from Dublin, who merge 60’s songwriting with a 70’s studio vibe. Their analogue-exclusive sound transfers seamlessly onto the live stage, with their crowds known to be impartial to a conga line or two, particularly during their song “Choo Choo”.

Where they’re playing: t’s been a busy summer for the lads of Fizzy Orange; from releasing their debut EP to a sold-out hometown show in Workman’s. You can still catch them at All Together Now, Under the Drum and Electric Picnic.

  1. Hotgirl

Who they are: This four-piece band was born in lead singer Ashley’s bedroom and have quickly become one of the buzziest acts of Dublin’s live music scene. Their unique take on an alternative indie rock sound has earned them supporting gigs for acts like The Libertines, playing in sold out venues across Ireland and the UK.

Where they’re playing: Hotgirl have become quite the hot ticket, especially since the release of their EP in April. You can catch Hotgirl’s high-energy sets at All Together Now and Whelan’s We’ve Only Just Begun.

Where they’re playing: After supporting The Mary Wallopers to a sold-out Fairview Park and releasing their new single Ceannasacht, it’s certainly a Sexy Tadgh Summer. Be sure to catch their set at All Together Now for a truly one-of-a-kind Irish act.
