Activites and Engagement Officer – Finn Lampstaes Capes
My name is Finn Lampstaes, my course is Product Design Engineering, and I’m a candidate for the Activities and Engagement Officer.

“Your advocate for clubs and societies”
How do you aim to help students in the midst of financial hardship, such as in making activities more affordable and accessible?
A big point of getting into clubs and societies is the PEC membership, that has been increasing over the years. I think a good way to fight costs would be to have a club membership that would be cheaper than the main membership. I’m a member of the Trampoline sports club; I only really go for trampolining, so I don’t see the point in paying the full membership to only use part. I think to get a cheaper membership for clubs would be ideal.
What do you think isn’t been done enough by the SU in the past in terms of activities and engagement, and what are your additional plans for improvement?
I think the “one-off”, non-recurring events that the SU do every so often, need to be more frequent, to get people out of the house, on the afternoon or evening. I hope that social media, posters and things, would be a great way to gain students’ attention on further events at the SU.
What experience – in SU and general student involvement – can you bring to this role?
I’ve been on the Trampolining committee for the past few years; last year I was secretary, and this year I’m one of the co-captains. I’ve done a lot of working with working with many people in organising a society. I’m also in a separate committee which goes further and is working on organising a trampoline competition that is going to be in Galway; getting involved with many people, including outside the university, is great for the SU Officer role. I’ve done a bit of volunteering in coaching trampolining as well.
What do you do in your free time?
I like to draw; realistic stuff, objects and still life in particular.
In 5 words or less, what is your campaign about?
Being a face for students.
