OH! You NEED to try these DONUTS: A Review of OH! DONUTS Stranmillis

By Laura Blackledge

Stranmillis got a much-needed pop of colour recently with the opening of a new OH! DONUTS location. The establishment, known for its wide variety of flavours of donuts, has another location in the city centre, and previously had a location in a storage container based in Sprucefield shopping centre which closed in July 2024.

The newly opened Stranmillis location is just a short walk from the Queen’s campus, and is perfect for ‘your pre-lecture caffeine, post-seminar sugar rush and all-night essay fuel,’ according to the caption of their Instagram post promoting the location. The opening times run from 8 am-4pm on weekdays and 10 am-5pm on weekends in both of their Belfast based locations, and the staff are friendly, knowledgeable about coffee, and ready to give recommendations.

Even though term time is wrapping up for the Christmas Break, this is the perfect opportunity to give their winter drink specials a try, such as their Cranberry Matcha or the Chocolate Orange Chai. Other drinks on the menu include espressos, americanos, a selection of different teas (Belfast brew, Earl Grey, green, Mint) and hot chocolate with a choice between House Blend, White, Orange, and Cardamom and Clove.

While I highly recommend all of their donut flavours, two which are MUST try are the Cinnamon Sugar Ring and the White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake—both with just the right amount of flavouring to hit the spot, without being too sickening.

The interior of the Stranmillis location provides a comforting and casual environment, perfect for studying, meeting with friends, or simply people watching, where you are greeted by a plethora of donuts the second you walk through the door (using the handle that is shaped like four donuts). The use of neutral colours within provides a contrast to the bright storefront, in a way that compliments it. As you make your way through the inside, there are bags of coffee lining the walls— perfect for a stocking filler or gift—as well as merchandise that is the perfect present for someone in your life who loves coffee and donuts.

The prices are student-friendly—which is a bonus for students waiting for their January student loan to come in—with the cost of a coffee and a donut ranging from £5.75-£7.

Overall, when taking into consideration the quality of the food and drinks, the friendliness of the staff, and the environment within, it is obvious that this is an excellent addition to Belfast.

Make sure to pay a visit and give their expansive menu a try. Donuts are, after all, the food of the gods.
